There are enormous number of description for Papua New Guinea (PNG) from various authors during
their encounter with PNG, either in person or through research. Enclosed is a Maienduo perspective of the country I call home.
The Island of New Guinea is the second largest Island on the planet. Greenland being the largest Island. The Eastern half is the Independent state of Papua New Guinea and the western half is Irian Jaya, a territory of Indonesia. Papua New Guinea is geographically diverse and is characterized by high mountain ranges, deep valleys, mighty rivers in the interior and open plains, tropical forests and swampy inlets in the low lying coastal region. PNG is also the home of some rare species of Flora and Fauna as well as impressive variety of exotic birds, including approximately forty species of birds of paradise.
PNG is located low latitude south of the equator, and enjoys the dual tropical climatic seasons of
rain and sunny days. In the Highlands the misty temperature feels like Autumn/Spring, hence you
will need sweaters if you are heading up to the Highlands.
